Hi this is Kat, let me introduce myself. I am a fashion stylist and i’ve been working in the business for 15 years. I started as a model then studied design in Paris and New York. I will be your guide through the Torn blog, so let’s get started! Today I am going to introduce you to Ronny, the creative engine behind Torn. I went to see her today at her 5th ave studio for a coffee, a chat, and a laugh. I can’t even put into words how fun she is, it’s too bad I didn’t have a video camera! KT: What do you do?
RK: I’m a fashion designer.
KT: Where are you from?
RK: I was born in Israel, raised in Hong Kong. When I was seventeen I moved to New York and I became a New Yorker: all of my family and friends are here.
KT: How do you describe your look?
RK: I have 2 looks: a day look and a night look. During the day I am very bohemian and layed back. I like comfy clothing. During the night I like to be more flirty and sexy. I really love novelty. It is my signature thing!! But fashion should be fun, I like to find the humor in it!
KT: What or who inspires you?
RK: I get a lot of inspiration from upholstery and interior fabrics.
KT: Did you grow up with fashion or when did you get into it?
RK:I grew up with fashion. My dad manufactures in Hong Kong.
KT: Where do you like to shop?
RK: Vintage markets- especially for jewelry, and I love to shop on beaches when I go on vacation. There is always a little store somewhere you can find beautiful, unique things.
KT: Do you shop online? If yes which sites?
RK: Yes I do. I like Louisa via roma, Shopbop, Singer 22, Shopstyle and Polyvore.
KT: What is your favorite piece you from your closet?
RK: It is an Hermes Elephant printed scarf. I have had it for about 5 years.
KT: What is your favorite vacation spot?
RK: In winter for a beach vacation I love Anguilla. During the summer I like Mykonos, Montauk and the French Riviera. For skiing I love Montana.
KT: What kind of music do you listen to?
RK: Depends on my mood but I listen to music every day
KT: Best Gift you have ever received?
RK: Zebra rug
KT: Do you do sports?
RK: I do pilates 4 times a week.
KT: If you could steal a piece from someone else’s closet what would it be?
RK: A vintage Alaia animal sweater dress
KT: Which modern day persona’s style do you admire?
RK: Any strong independent woman, famous or not famous
KT: Do you read blogs? Which ones?
RK: Yes, Manrepeller, Jak& Jil, Garance Dore, Mara Hoffman
KT: Which Magazines do you read?
RK: Vanity Fair, French Vogue, Italian Vogue, UK Harpers Bazaar, UK Elle, Grazia, US Weekly, Architectural Digest
KT: Where do you like to eat in the city?
RK: My local spots are Via Quadrona, Sushi of Gari and I love Benihana (laughs). But my favorite place is at home. My boyfriend is a chef.
KT: Where do you go for a date?
RK: 11 Madison. I am a big foodie.
KT: Do you go out?
RK: Yes I love to go out dancing with my girlfriends. Not any particular place. We always have fun no matter where.
KT: What is your beauty routine?
RK: I wash my face with Neutrogena foaming wash, then I use the P50 toner. I use Crème de la Mer as a moisturizer. For makeup I wear a lip stain by Kevyn Aucoin, Maybelline mascara in black and then I use an eyebrow brush from Laura Geller.
KT: Do you have a to go to outfit?
RK: I usually put on something beige or green. I always love something with fringe, usually on shoes, and then I wear relaxed-fit pants, tank tops and heels.
KT: Do you wear jewelry?
RK: Always! I never leave my house without…usually earrings or a necklace.
KT: Which items do you purchase most?
RK: Shoes!
KT: Which are your favorite designers?
RK: Alaia, McQueen, and Isabel Marant
KT: What drives you as a designer?
RK: Having a vision and I love to perfect the execution. I am always looking for perfection and I am never satisfied. Wanting to achieve more keeps me going!
